As San Diego’s craft beer scene continues to evolve, several breweries have opened satellite tasting rooms to provide an additional space for their brews to be served directly to the public. One of the newer tasting rooms in town is home to a trio of brands – The Lost Abbey, Port Brewing Company, and The Hop Concept – which are all brewed in their original San Marcos facility (Stone Brewing Co.’s first location.)
Just a minute down the hill from the 5 freeway off the Birmingham exit, the tasting room dubbed The Confessional is located in a plaza which faces Coast Highway and the Pacific Ocean. Their address ends with “Cardiff-by-the-Sea, CA”, and you don’t often find such a perfectly descriptive town name. For both locals and visitors, this is absolutely an beautiful location to enjoy a few well refined brews.
Once you set foot in The Confessional, you are greeted with a very diverse and plentiful selection of beers on tap. Each of the three brands represented in their taps has a distinct personality, gracefully crafted by brewmaster Tomme Arthur. The Lost Abbey produces beers brewed in the Belgian monastic tradition, Port Brewing Company (not to be confused with Pizza Port Brewing Company) has a collection of aggressive West Coast styled beers, and The Hop Concept is their just-launched-in-2015 line of one-off quarterly released IPAs.
