Since 2011, Green Flash Brewing Co has been crafting an annual brew called Treasure Chest as a tribute to Vice President and Co-Founder Lisa Hinkley’s victory over breast cancer. In a few short years, this charitable campaign has raised over $150,000 for regional breast cancer charities in association with the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
In the video above, Green Flash introduces their 2015 version of Treasure Chest. The recipe has been changing each year, with past brews including a Barrel Aged Belgian Style Saison with Plum, a Belgian Pale Ale, and a Belgian Style Brown. This year’s creation takes it into a zone that Green Flash knows well – a 100% Mosaic IPA. Here are the tasting notes from the brewery:
“Say Aloha to Treasure Chest 2015, an exotic pink IPA brewed with grapefruit, prickly pear juice and hibiscus flowers. Erupting with fruit-forward complexity, 100% Mosaic hops present aromas of heady citrus and refined stone fruit. The pleasantly bitter flavors of the hops are enhanced by the addition of fresh grapefruit juice. Offering balance to offset the bold citrus notes, prickly pear juice imparts a peppery-sweet kick in the finish. Tropical Hibiscus flowers give this beer a naturally pink hue, a nod to the official color of the Treasure Chest mission. 5.7% ABV | 65 IBU”
Green Flash is really going big for this year’s release: their fundraising goal of $150,000 for the 2015 release would match the cumulative amount they have raised since the project began back in 2011. They will be bottling 22oz bottles (a Treasure Chest first), and also have a wide draft distribution in over 24 states. There are several big events that will be helping celebrate the release, with Green Flash doing big events both at their San Diego headquarters, and also at the grounds of their forthcoming Virginia Beach location.
Look for Treasure Chest in stores and on draft near you in August 2015. They are also asking fans to help spread awareness by sharing a picture cheers-ing your Treasure Chest with the hashtag #RAISEAGLASS2015 on social media.
